Once again, Thermomix has found a new way to amaze me. On the recommendation of UK Thermomix Director and dog owner/lover/trainer Janie Turner, I just made some irresistible dog treats – in my Thermomix!

Janie Turner’s Irresistible Thermomix Dog Treats
Makes a large baking tray’s worth

Ingredients
3 cloves of garlic
a tub of chicken livers, about 400 g

Method

  1. Peel garlic 4 seconds/Speed 4/Reverse Blade Direction. Remove skins from bowl, add livers and process 30 seconds/Speed 7 or until you have a smooth paste.
  2. Evenly spread the liver and garlic paste onto a baking tray/cookie sheet lined with cling film or a silicone sheet. I used a handy bent-handle spatula. Dry in a very low oven or warming drawer for three to four hours to remove almost all moisture; it’ll be like leather when it’s ready.
  3. Cut into strips or shapes and watch your doggies go wild!

  • Hi Mike, these treats do best in two ways: either keep them refrigerated with air circulating around them, or let them dry out on something like a cake cooling rack. I found that they go mouldy if kept in an air-tight container at room temperature. I have kept dried ones for a few weeks but my boys love them so much they don’t last very long 😉
My other recipe for cheddar and bacon dog biscuits lasts for several months so try that one, too: https://www.whyisthereair.com/2012/08/18/makin-it-with-bacon/
Good luck with your stubborn Akita and give her a gentle pat on the head from Madame Thermomix and her friends Billy and Harley!

  • You’re very welcome, Giselle! I’m glad your doggies like these easy Thermomix dog treats. Happy Thermomix cooking with Why is There Air!

  • Thank you.. love the dog biscuits n very keen to try the liver treats. Love the ease n economy.

  • Thanks for your comment, Tim, and for bringing up this interesting subject. There are many differing opinions on the internet about garlic and dogs. Garlic has been used for centuries in humans for its healing properties and I have given garlic in small quantities to my dogs for decades. It is excellent as a flea repellent and is widely available over the counter as such. As with so many things, moderation is key and it would most likely not be wise to give your dog a whole head of garlic to chew on 🙂

Here are links to a couple of articles I found on the web. I urge everyone to make up their own mind but to keep an open mind.

Bon appétit for you and your dogs!

  • I thought anything from the onion family (i.e. garlic) was bad for dogs… Am I mistaken?

  • Yes, Janine, it would certainly be quicker to dry these luscious liver and garlic dog treats in a dehydrator. Please give it a try and let me know how your furkids love them!

Thanks for reading Why Is There Air!

  • Hi – this looks amazing – my furkids love liver treats. Question – could these be dried in a dehumidifier? Thanks for posting.

  • Best of luck to new mum Minnie Fox and her pups! Make her some of these oh-so-easy doggie treats, she’ll love you even more for it 🙂

  • Love the look of this. Will make soon
ps our Minnie Foxie just had 5 puppies on MOther’s Day!!

  • Yes, Janie, the doggies would do nearly anything for them – especially Billy! Harley is gradually coming round, too. Thanks for the fast and easy recipe!

  • Hi Madame Thermomix, so glad you made these and hope the wonderful (to dogs!) fragrance and flavour helps with the recall training!
