Yawn. Clatter. Slam. Yawn again. It’s 6:44 a.m. and John is in the kitchen making tea. But since we watched BBC One’s recent documentary called “10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight” which scientifically proved that a thick blended soup is a brilliant way to control hunger pangs and lose weight, he has been making himself blended Thermomix soups for lunch every day. They’re delicious and keep him feeling fuller longer, right up until dinner time. He has cut down on snacking quite a bit, and looks and feels better, too.

So this morning John is not only making tea, he’s also making his blended Thermomix soup for lunch. I hear various clattering noises and then the familiar sound of my Thermomix chopping carrots and celery for a few seconds. [Don’t worry, I only know it’s carrots and celery because John told me it was :-)] Soon the delightful waft of soup makes its way upstairs and tickles my nostrils. The smell is vaguely familiar; memories of last night’s dinner?

John rushes up the stairs and gives me a quick peck on the cheek and asks me to turn off the Thermomix soup when it sings, because he’ll be in the shower. In actual fact he was out of the shower just before the familiar “I’m finished” song rang out, but I don’t mind. That’s one of the most amazing things about Thermomix; it cooks and stirs all by itself so you can take a quick shower, paint your nails, send a few emails, set the table, or whatever else needs doing at the same time. And what’s more, Thermomix harnesses the energy produced by cooking a steaming hot soup and uses it to steam other foods in the Varoma steamer. Voilà: two dishes cooked at the same time!

Flash forward to lunchtime. John’s soup is really delicious; there was enough for both his lunch and mine. As per the experiment on “10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight,” John blended the leftovers from last night’s dinner with some water and his addition of carrots and celery and cooked it in the Thermomix. Then he blended it in the same Thermomix bowl to make a thick blended soup. He started with a stir fry of chicken, vegetables and potatoes and ended up with Leftovers Soup. You can use whatever leftovers you have, as long as you think the tastes will complement each other. It’s a great way to use up leftovers and cut down on waste. Try it and see!

And Thermomix is kid-friendly, so the children can help make soup for lunch, too. It’s packed with safety features like the brilliant Soft Start which allows you to safely blend hot liquids without splashing or burning. Thermomix won’t operate if the lid isn’t fully closed so there’s no risk of getting hurt, and your children and grandchildren can learn to cook the fast and easy Thermomix way.

Bon appétit !
