The 4 Blades Magazine: a digital treasure trove for Thermomix users everywhere

The 4 Blades Magazine: a digital treasure trove for Thermomix users everywhere

Once upon a time in the Land of Oz, there were two ThermoLovers. They busily used their favourite thermal kitchen appliance to prepare fast and easy, healthy meals for themselves, their families and friends. They loved their thermal kitchen appliance so much and talked about it so much that they decided to talk to others about this amazing machine with four blades. And thus, in May 2013, The 4 Blades: the podcast was born.

Then, on the other side of the Land of Oz, there was someone who didn’t love her thermal mixer and who started a long journey to get to know it. They watched each other from afar, comparing their love for the amazing 4-bladed appliance. And one day they pooled their resources and in November of 2014 a great digital magazine for thermal mixer users was born. Readership has grown in just a short while and The 4 Blades magazine now has over 5,000 monthly subscribers.

I really admire Bec, Joe and Peta. They’re young, bright and creative, and they have listened to their guts, forgotten to be afraid and made a dream come true. And their recipes are brilliant! In case you don’t yet know The 4 Blades Magazine, here’s what they say about it on their website: “The 4 Blades Magazine is the interactive digital magazine for thermo mixers, available for Apple and Android mobile devices. Each month we bring you new beautiful cooking ideas for use with your thermo mixer.” Not bad, eh?

Each issue of The 4 Blades Magazine is jam-packed with 40 tried and tested recipes, thanks to a panel of over 70 recipe testers around the world. And of course, they also include recipes from other Thermomix bloggers such as yours truly, thank you very much 😉

I really like how thorough Peta, Joe and Bec are. Their recipes are easy to follow and they don’t just stop there, each issue is theme-based and provides loads of info every month. I especially admire the self-publishing aspect of their enterprise. There’s no big publishing house behind them, it’s just these 3 dynamic and driven Thermo Lovers making the most of their passion for good food and for our Best Friend in the Kitchen.

And hats off to the team for producing a weekly podcast for just over 3 years now! Families, jobs, magazines and podcasts, too? It makes me tired just thinking about their creative journey.

And how better to describe their journey than in Bec’s own words?

Joe and Bec are from Brisbane (http://www.the4blades.com/about-us/). We believe that great moments happen over food.

When we first discovered the Thermomix we were in Italy. We have some dear family members who live in Rome, and although they aren’t closely related they welcomed us with open arms as if we were long lost siblings.

They were amazing. One night we were helping in the kitchen whilst they were cooking one of their amazing dinners and we saw them use what appeared to be a magical machine. It heated things, ground things up, mixed things, whipped things and blended things. To be brutally honest, we thought we had found some unknown, better and cheaper version of the Kitchenaid…. well… we were partly right.

As we shared the amazing meal we got to talking about this magical machine that they called the ‘Bimby’ (affectionately known as the 4th member of their family). So when we got home we started researching and finally found that the ‘Bimby’ was actually called a ‘Thermomix’ in Australia. We attended a demo and the rest is history.

Peta is from Canberra (http://www.trtlmt.com.au/welcome/). The Winstons (that’s Bec and Joe of course) admired Peta’s work from afar until one day they plucked up the courage to ask her to be interviewed for their podcast. This led to Facebook messages and emails until finally we decided to create something wonderful together. That has become The 4 Blades Magazine. We didn’t actually meet Peta face to face until 6 months after the mag launched! The power of digital, hey?

The Mag is all about helping people grow their kitchen confidence with recipes they can trust. We have an amazing team of 70+ recipe testers around the world to try and test all the recipes… so we know that they work before we publish them!

We all have our mobile devices with us all the time now, so publishing the awesome TM recipes that we create (along with those created by wonderful contributors like Madame Thermomix) makes sense, and allows us to make them available all over the world.
